Phase 2 (Mill St and Elgin St Intersections) is beginning

Phase 2 (Mill St and Elgin St intersections) is beginning May 20th. As construction starts again in downtown Port Elgin, here's what you need to know:

  • Roads and Parking lots

    • A section (red) of Goderich Street between Mill St and Elgin St will be closed
    • Some areas (yellow) will be open to local traffic only
    • Parking lots and pedestrian access (Turquoise) will be maintained
    • Efforts will be made to maintain parking spots within the local traffic zone when possible

  • Detours

    • Northbound Traffic (Purple): Use Gustavus St or Green St to Bricker St to Market St
    • Southbound Traffic (Green): Use Market St, to Waterloo St to Green St or Gustavus St
    • Temporary stop sign locations have been adjusted on the detour routes to support traffic flow and safety

  • Businesses are OPEN

    • Downtown businesses are open and ready to welcome you!
    • You can access downtown Port Elgin via pedestrian walkways.
    • Municipal parking lots are open and available for your downtown shopping needs.

  • Water Service Distruptions

    As we work to replace aging water infrastructure, some water service disruptions are expected.

    In order to minimize impact and fit in all necessary work, a rolling disruption schedule will be followed. This will allow SMALLER groups of properties to be affected during each disruption.

Phase 3 Update: Ivings Dr to Concession 6 (Storm infrastructure replacement)

Progress continues on Phase 3 at the south end of Port Elgin.

Approximately half of the storm sewer replacement has been completed to date, with the work expected to be finished in June. Lane reductions will continue to be in place through this section of Goderich Street while work is completed.

Phase 3

Phase 4 & 5: Asphalt (Emma St to Concession 6 and Market St to Concession 10)

This work will be completed in tandem with Phases 2 and 3. Using a milling and paving technique will minimize disruptions in these areas to single lane closures as the road is resurfaced. Visit the project page for more details on milling and paving.
