AWC Operations and Management Plan Update

3 July 2025

At the June 23, 2025 Council meeting, the Town of Saugeen Shores Council approved the final Operations and Management Plan for the new Aquatic and Wellness Centre (AWC), along with the associated fees and charges by-law. This milestone marks a major step forward in preparing for the Centre’s anticipated opening in Fall 2025.

What’s New in the Plan?

The updated Plan builds on the draft presented in 2024 and incorporates feedback from community engagement. Key updates include:

  • AWC Participation Structure: Details on the new Active Pass Program, including flexible membership options and a new Sports Access Pass.
  • Facility Allocation: Prioritization of Town-led programming during the first 18 months, with consideration for existing user groups and community partners.
  • Programming Principles: A framework for developing inclusive, high-quality programs, including drop-in, registered, and passive options.
  • Affordable Recreation Program: Eight streams of support, including the Passes for Access subsidy, discounted rates for youth and seniors, and free participation programs.
  • Fee Structure: A range of membership options with discounts for fixed-term and recurring plans.

Next Steps:

  • Fall 2025: Soft opening of the AWC and transition from the Centennial Pool.
  • 2026–2027: Ongoing monitoring and quarterly updates to Council, with a comprehensive review planned for mid-2027.

The AWC Operations and Management Plan reflects the Town’s commitment to customer service, participation, financial responsibility, and community wellness. It will guide the successful launch and long-term operation of this exciting new facility.
