Wondering what's happening on High Street? Here is a snapshot of the work being done and what's happing next.

As the project gets closer to the finish line, here's what's been done so far:

• Underground storm infrastructure installation from Albert St to Victoria St
• Road base and first layer of asphalt on South side from Grosvenor St to Victoria St, as well as north side between Albert St and Victoria St
• Curbs along South side from Grosvenor St to Victoria St, as well as north side between Albert St and Victoria St
• Sidewalks along South side from Grosvenor St to Victoria St, as well as north side between Albert St and Victoria St

Early this week (week of September 8), the construction area will move to the North side of High Street between Albert St and Grosvenor St. To facilitate an expedited timeline and reintroduce parking, this section of High St will be open to Eastbound traffic only for a short period of time.

Detours for Westbound traffic will be in place and marked to ensure uninterrupted access to downtown Southampton.

Roadwork in the North side construction area includes additional storm sewer installation, granular road base, first asphalt layer, and remaining boulevard works. This work is expected to be completed within three weeks.

The final sections of old sidewalk along the North side of High St will be removed over a period of a few days and replaced with a temporary gravel walkway. The sidewalk installation will be then be completed in large segments in order to expedite work and minimize disruption to affected businesses.

Placement of tree grates and interlocking brick will begin on the South side between Grosvenor St and Albert St. Additional concrete work will also be completed to finish the area.

As work progresses, temporary parking spots will be reinstated on the South side of High St between Grosvenor St and Albert St.
